John Davis Owen passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at home in Hilo, Hawaii at 83 years old. Son of Mildred Gill and John Owen Jr., he graduated from Benson High School and Oregon State University. He served in the Coast Guard in Alaska and as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Peru [1962-64].
John worked as a builder and taught carpentry apprenticeship. He designed and built custom homes and volunteered for the Columbia Solar Energy Association. For years he biked to work at the Portland Bureau of Buildings as an Inspector until retiring in 2002.
He survived brothers, James and Leslie; and half-brother, Glen. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne Waibel Owen; daughter, Jana, New York; son, Jason, Hawaii; and extended family.

He majored in carpentry at Benson and graduated in 1955. He drove for Tommy Luke's Flowers and started working construction.
Dad grew up with his Mom and two brothers in the Mocks Crest area of North Portland. She supported them by working in the shipyards during the War and then later at ten years old Dad got his first job delivering papers.
