Trainees live with families to intensify the experience. Max and three of the other trainees were provided with an orientation to natural resource management a la boliviana.
Most trainees participate in their own site selection. Typically the future PCVs receive one to four detailed site reports and perhaps may even visit several of the proposed sites. For Max, selection of a medium-sized mining village or municipalidad in a deforested region of the southern altiplano was a logical fit.
PC arranges for a Bolivian liaison at each site but many volunteers usually end up finding their own functional counterparts. In Max's case, his primary project has become the construction and management of a vivero, a tree nursery. The vivero (Continued on page 7)
